27 Sep DIY No Sew Dog Bandana Collars
Here’s another effortless project that is perfect for those not “sew” crafty gals (and guys) out there!
As you know, bandanas are a colorful way to accessorize your dog for any occasion. But this quick and easy DIY one-ups the traditional knotted square around the neck! Not only does it look great, but it has a stylish collar that makes it oh-so-easy to put on and take off.
Your pup will strut with a relaxed and confident vibe in their very own custom DIY No Sew Dog Bandana Collar. And can’t ya just hear the “awwws” as they show off their new canine kerchief?
You’ll need…
- Cotton fabric
- Release buckles (½ inch for smaller dogs or 1 inch for larger dogs)
- Double-sided fusible adhesive tape, ½ inch wide
- Hot glue or fabric glue
- Scissors
- Iron
Step 1
To determine the proper size of fabric needed for the collar, measure your pup’s neck (or current collar) to see how long you want the collar to be and then add about 1.5 inches or so to the length. For small to medium sized dogs, you’ll want to cut the width about 2 inches wide. Fabric for a larger dog collar should be cut about 4 inches wide to fit the larger buckle.
Step 2
Fold your cut collar piece in half lengthwise and iron it down. Open up the fabric and fold each cut edge into the center crease you just made and iron them flat.
Step 3
Cut a length of fusible tape the same length as your collar and fuse the folded sides of the collar together.
Step 4
Use fabric glue (or hot glue) to attach the buckle parts to each end of the collar and allow it to dry.
Step 5
Now the fun part! It’s time to make the stylish bandana. First create a pattern by folding a piece of scrap paper in half and draw a half-diamond shape along the fold. The size of the pattern can be adjusted to whatever works best for your pet. Once you cut it out, you can hold it up to your pup’s neck to get a general idea of the size you’ll need.
Step 6
Unfold the paper template and trace the shape on the back of the fabric, adding about a ¼ inch extra all the way around.
Step 7
Cut out the diamond shape. Then using fusible tape, fold in the sides and iron them down to create clean edges all the way ‘round.
Step 8
Place the collar on the back of the bandana. Fold the bandana over the collar and use fabric glue or fusible tape to stick the bandana edges together.
These are just too darn cute, aren’t they?! And just think.. you could create a different one for various holidays or even one for each day in the week! You may just turn your pup into a pampered fashionista!
