21 Jun DIY Patriotic Pup Fireworks Decor
This year, celebrate Independence Day with your own rustic dog-inspired 4th of July decorations. With a lick of paint and some rope embellishments, you can easily create this DIY Patriotic Pup Fireworks Decor in classic shades of red, white, and blue and spread your patriotic pride throughout your home.
You’ll need…
- 4×4 post cut to about 16 – 24 inches tall (or any ole scrap blocks of wood found at your local lumber or big box hardware store)
- Acrylic paint in red, white and blue colors
- Painter’s tape
- Paintbrush
- Pen
- Jute or hemp rope
- Scissors
- Sandpaper
- Glue
Instructions:
Step 1
Lightly sand the block, as needed, and paint the entire block white and let it dry.
Step 2
Mark a line around the top ⅓ of the block and the areas that will be white stripes with painter’s tape. Then paint the lower half of the block with red paint.
Step 3
Once the block has dried, remove any painter’s tape.
Step 4
Create four paw prints stencils from painter’s tape and place them around the top of the block on all four sides.
Step 5
Tape off the base around the top area and paint it blue. After the paint dries, remove any painter’s tape and sand any edges to give it a more rustic feel.
Step 6
Cut a piece of rope for a “fuse” and glue it to the top of your patriotic block. (Depending on the size of your block and the thickness of your rope, you might want to drill a hole first for the fuse to sit into.) You can also wrap some smaller rope around the block to dress up your firecracker, if you’d like!
Snap, boom, pawp…you’re done!! It’s time to celebrate America with these wonderfully pup-inspired rustic Americana decorations in red, white and blue. Happy 4th!!
